Duck Hunting
Season Dates for 2013 / 2014

Sept. 28, 2013 – Jan 11, 2014

Peak seasons:

Wood duck, Teals:                                   Sep. to mid Oct.

Mallards:                                                      Nov. to end of season

Divers:                                                           Nov. to end of season

Goldeneyes:                                                Dec. to end of season

General information:

The maturity of our duck hunts is done over water earlier in the season in flooded swamps, inland lakes, rivers and small creeks, later in the season we mainly hunt the Ottawa River, Rideau River, St. Lawrence River and Rideau Lake in the Westport area.

Hunting is done either directly on the shore, from our comfortable duck boats, fixed or temp. blinds.

Rain and standing water in the fields will draw mallards out of the flooded swamps and bring them to the fields in good numbers, thats when we go after them on field duck hunts with exceptional success rates.

Usually when mallards are using the fields there will be plenty of geese as well so it sets up well for a great shoot of both ducks and geese.

You will be very amazed about the mix of species in our area, of course depending on the time of the year.

Her just a few to name:

Mallards, American Black ducks, Common Mergansers, Blue-bills, Little Blue-bills, Goldeneyes, Whistlers, Widgeon, Pintails, Teals (green and blue winged), Buffleheads, Red Heads, etc.

Snow Goose Hunting

Season Dates for 2013 / 2014

Spring season:                     March 2014 - May 2014

(Season dates are approximates)

Peak season:

Spring:   Mid March - End of April

General information:

Spring Snow Goose hunting is a very different experience as hunting Canada goose in the fall in terms of success rates.

During the spring Snow Goose season the birds have already been hunted very hard all the way down the flyway and back up before they get finally to our areas.

Which means for Snow Geese; the season pretty much never ends because they are hunted everywhere they go and become very wise.

For Snow Goose hunts in Ontario we follow the birds on their fly back up north.

Average spread sizes of decoys varies very since we need to adapt to the locations, weather conditions, etc.

We use on our hunts primarily E-caller and regular Canada Goose mouth calls to bring the birds in.

Main worn camouflage is white clothes/suits while laying on layout style blinds. Success rates during past spring hunts ranged from 2 to 40 birds per day.

Antlers and Feathers Outfitters strongly recommend for the spring hunting season to book three (3) consecutive days to increase your chance on getting into at least one great day of hunting.

For all hunters out there, please understand that even with the highly liberate daily limits of 20 birds per day, don’t expect limit shoots.
